Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Road opened in Hadramaut

MUKALA, 28th August, 2016 (WAM) -- Major General Ahmed Saeed bin Brik, Governor of Hadramaut, today opened the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Road, which links Ghayl, al-Suda' and al-Shahr.

It is an international route that links the governorates of Hadramaut and Al Mahrah, as well as the Sultanate of Oman.

The move is part of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (ERC) campaign to rebuild the infrastructure and to restore normal life in Yemen.

The event was attended by Mattar Al Ketbi, Chief of the ERC Team in Hadramaut, and a number of Yemeni officials.

Major General Brik thanked the ERC for its outstanding contributions to various projects in Hadramout, especially the rebuilding of infrastructure, and carrying on the relief, health, education and other projects.

He praised the UAE's backing of Yemen, citing the continued humanitarian assistance to Yemen that dates back to the days of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a legacy sustained by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and followed up by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Al Ketbi said the ERC supervised the project to ensure it was completed on time, and as per the agreed upon specifications to alleviate the suffering of the citizens, facilitate their movement between villages and serve many agricultural areas.

The project is the first major infrastructure project by the UAE in Hadramaut, which was executed on schedule within three months of the ERC signing the contract to pave the Ghayl-Al Shahr Road, with Bin Malik Foundation in the beginning of June. The project was implemented at a total cost of over US$2.9 million.
