JEDDAH: Expatriates will now be allowed to avail of treatment in government hospitals, provided they are ready to pay the fee and abide by the rules and regulations at these health centers.

The Ministry of Health took this decision in view of a huge number of expatriates, especially in rural areas where fewer or no private hospitals are found, a health official was quoted as saying by local media on Saturday.

The official said that another important reason for the decision is that emergency cases cannot be refused by government health centers.

A directive has been issued to all the centers run by the Ministry of Health, he said. "Various things, such as the method of working and capacity of the health centers, were taken into account before applying the rule."
