Manama: Saudi Arabia is deporting 50 foreigners for breaking the law and washing cars in public in the city of Madinah.

The unskilled labourers without fixed jobs were detained after traffic and municipal authorities swooped in on several areas in the city and rounded up people doing odd jobs illegally.

The raid was part of a campaign launched this week to fight the growing phenomenon, a Saudi Arabic daily reported on Thursday.

Saudi Arabia has been pushing for a reform of the labour market to ensure the employment of a higher number of Saudi men and women.

The reforms include addressing the issue of unemployed foreigners, mainly unskilled labourers from Asia, doing odd jobs illegally to survive.

Saudi Arabia is home to 27 million people, including nine million foreigners.
