DOHA: Samsung is targeting a 23 percent market share as it keep its fingers crossed to lead the local smartphone industry with a parade of the new more advanced Samsung Galaxy S II and the bigger yet thinner Galaxy Tab in two different size models.

The new Samsung smartphone models were launched during a press launch yesterday at W Hotel where senior Samsung executives presented its new features which they said offer better performance in speed and power.

Describing it as "super smartphones", Young Woo Jun, Director for Telecommunications Group of Samsung Electronics, said the new Samsung gadgets are the most revolutionary smartphone ever that would bring innovations at a new level.

He said the new models have captured 43 percent of the smartphone market share in the US making it the number one brand there as he look forward for the brand to also lead the market in Qatar in the second quarter of this year.

"The wind of change is finally coming to Qatar," Jun said. His fearless forecast came at a time when two leading smartphone brands are in competition with massive promotional campaigns on new models even handled by the two telecoms operators in Qatar.

Jun said Samsung Gulf Electronics has already collaborated with the government sector in the UEA for the use of Galaxy Tab in all of their operations as he expects a similar agreement will be in place here.

The new Galaxy S II uses the latest version of Android Gingerbread, the world's fastest-growing mobile operating system. It has a dual core application processor and advanced wireless network (HSPA+ 21) connectivity, that it has the power and speed to provide an unrivalled mobile performance.

It also offers rapid mobile download speeds while the BlueTooth 3.0+HS feature considerably reduces data transfer times.
