DOHA: Qatar University (QU) recently launched a new version of its website which could be accessed by smart phones. The new website was designed with the latest technology that makes the site's content more easily accessible.

This new development is part of a set of comprehensive changes that included the provision of a bilingual website in Arabic and English. It is also aimed to strengthen the role of QU in social networking forums such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Linkedin to connect QU students, faculty and staff.

Sheikha Sherida Al Kaabi, Marketing and Communication head, QU said, "We noticed that most of our users login to websites by their smart phones, so QU Website Unit designed a website that can be accessed through these phones. A great feature of the site is that it has a variety of tools that help users to access content easier and faster".

Unit head Hilmi Oz said, "Firstly we will see the feedback we receive from those who use their smart phones to access the site, and this will take us to the next step developing in developing it. More pages and topics will be added later for us to stay connected with our internal and external audiences."

Web designer Shaima Abdulasalam noted that many established institutions provide a website for their users which is accessed by smart phones. "We used the newest technologies on this site and users can access a wide range of information about QU colleges, departments, programmes and events," she said
