Iran exported $2 billion worth of petrochemical products in the two months ending May 20, said the head of National Iranian Petrochemical Company (NIPC).

Abdolhossein Bayat said 2.8 million tons of petrochemical products were exported in the Iranian months of Farvardin and Ordibehesht (March 21-May 20), Presstv reported.

He said the value of Iran's petrochemical exports is expected to reach $14 billion by the end of the current Iranian year to March 2012.

Bayat added that Iran produced more than 40 million tons of petrochemicals in the last Iranian year.

The country also exported 18 million tons of petrochemical products worth $11.6 billion last year, showing a 26-percent increase compared to the figure for two years ago, he added.

Iran has expanded the range and volume of its petrochemical products significantly in recent years.

Iran is the second biggest producer of petrochemicals in the Middle East after Saudi Arabia.
