More than 125 exhibitors, including leading influencers, corporations and academia from all major economic sectors in the country, are taking part in Qatar Career Fair (QCF) 2013. The event got under way yesterday at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).

The exhibitors at the fair, which is being organised under the patronage of the HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani by Qatar Foundation, Qatar Petroleum, Emiri Diwan, Qatar University and the Ministry of Labour, are expected to play a pivotal role in providing young Qataris - especially students and fresh graduates - with professional guidance and advice on career opportunities and alternatives available to Qataris.

Among the participants - as a Gold exhibitor in the energy and industry section - is Qatar International Petroleum Marketing Company Limited (Tasweeq), which aims to achieve 50% Qatarisation by the end of 2015.

Tasweeq chief executive officer Saad al-Kuwari said, "Tasweeq regards QCF as an ideal platform to meet promising national graduates and professionals who can be inducted into Tasweeq's workforce in line with our recruitment needs. Tasweeq seeks to train and develop these graduates into world-class professionals with the right business acumen to market Qatar's petroleum products of crude oil, condensates, refined products and LPG globally."

The official said Tasweeq's participation in the fair is aimed at activating the Qatarisation policy by employing nationals in various departments. "As Tasweeq completes five years of successful operations, its Qatarisation strategy adopted by the top management continues to progress successfully under the guidance and support of HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, Minister of Energy & Industry Affairs and Tasweeq chairman.

The International Bank of Qatar (ibq) is also welcoming aspiring Qataris willing to join its workforce in line with the QCF's activities.

The bank's participation in the fair is a testament to its commitment to attract, develop and retain talented Qatari personnel whose ambition is to build a promising career in the banking and finance industry.

An ibq team is stationed at the bank's pavilion at the QNCC to offer advice and recommendations on career development, and provide necessary guidance to the career fair visitors.

The team will also discuss opportunities for Qataris to take part in the bank's learning and development programme.

Qatalum is taking part in the fair because of its focus on implementation of human resources projects within the Human Development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030 - a key objective of the fair.

The company is participating as an exhibitor at booth EI-G09 to attract Qatari students and graduates as future employees, which is part of its Qatarisation policy. At the fair, its objective is "to increase Qatari students' awareness on the importance of the aluminium industry and find in QCF a great opportunity to communicate with Qatari students".

The participation is also part of Qatalum's theme, "Forming Generations with a Brighter Perspective", which is considered by the company as highly important in the progress of the local society.

Part of the QCF 2013 advantage for Qatalum is the opportunity to communicate with students and share with them information on its programmes aimed at Qatari nationals. These include the Graduate Development Programmes, Professional Development Programme, National Scholarship Programme and Summer Training Programme.

A good number of visitors enquiring about jobs yesterday visited the pavilion of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), which is participating as one of the Pearl exhibitors in QCF 2013.

Kahramaa's human resources department is getting visitors acquainted with the job opportunities available in the corporation, including employment opportunities where technical jobs for promising Qatari graduates and cadres in various engineering areas (electrical, mechanical, civil, electronic and information technology) are available.

Employment opportunities pertaining to administrative and business development-related positions are also being offered for fresh graduates and qualified cadres matching with their qualifications and experiences.
Besides, a number of educational programmes and personal development opportunities are also available for Qatari students.

Kahramaa's HR manager Sheikha Jassim al-Thani said the corporation's participation in QCF 2013 aims to provide education, employment, training and development opportunities for Qataris in order to develop and qualify them in line with the National Development Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030.

Meanwhile, al khaliji is taking part in QCF 2013 in keeping with its wish to be the employer of choice for Qatari nationals and to strengthen its Qatarisation programme.

"Our participation in Qatar Career Fair 2013 is a testament to our commitment to nurturing and supporting our national talent, in keeping with Qatar National Vision 2030, by offering Qataris training, development and career opportunities in the banking sector so that they become future business and finance leaders. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, for setting the right vision and strategy to enable Qatari youth to meet the challenges of the modern world by being empowered and to strengthen their skills and capabilities," al khaliji board of directors chairman Sheikh Hamad bin Faisal bin Thani al-Thani said.

Vodafone Qatar is also targeting talented Qataris who are interested in opportunities at the company.
Hundreds of people visited Vodafone's booth and had the opportunity to meet its employees from a range of levels and departments, and found out what it's like to work for the company.

Many potential candidates were seen in a queue to sign up for the Vodafone internship programme and the 12-month graduate programme.

Vodafone also offered on-the-spot employment to various Qatari candidates for retail and customer care positions.

There are also a number of full-time opportunities available across the company, including senior positions.

The message from Qatargas to thousands of aspiring Qatari graduates and jobseekers visiting QCF 2013 is "Change Your Future - Change the World".

Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) is offering around 400 career opportunities this year to Qatari nationals with the list topped by clinical vacancies such as medical, nursing or laboratory and radiology technicians.
A number of other non-clinical positions in the administration are being introduced at QCF 2013.
PHCC is seeking to recruit Qatari students and undergraduates and provide new career opportunities and professional challenges with competitive benefits and salaries.

We would like to offer them a platform where they can extend their skills built upon the knowledge gained in their respective educational institutions," she said.

PHCC administration and finance executive director Musallam Mubarak al-Nabit said the participation of PHCC in the fair marks its commitment to Qatari citizens and is in line with the Qatar National Health Strategy 2011-2016.

PHCC is working to support the national healthcare strategy for a renaissance in the healthcare sector in the State of Qatar, and to uphold the corporation's mission to attract qualified Qataris by providing a stable work atmosphere that suits all employees. Accordingly, it will give them the opportunity to grow and develop their profession by working as a team with mutual respect.

Sidra Medical and Research Center, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, and a Pearl sponsor of the fair, is providing attendees with information on career opportunities for clinical and non-clinical positions within the hospital. The Sidra booth, located in Hall 8 of the education, health and sports section (number EHS-PS01), is offering visitors a chance to win an iPad every day.

For those who do not have experience in relevant fields till date, Sidra will also offer opportunities through the Sidra Scholarship Programme and Jana Programme.

The Sidra Scholarship Programme, which is a part of Sidra's vision to develop domestic talent into world-renowned medical professionals, helps prepare those interested in building a career with Sidra by equipping them with the necessary skills and experience.
