Gated community attracts new customers in wake of developer's retail growth plans

Dubai - Nakheel is seeing a surge in interest in Warsan Village - its gated community of 934 homes under construction on the outskirts of International City - in the wake of its Dragon City expansion plans, announced last week.

Warsan Village has become the top source of residential sales enquiries at Nakheel since the company revealed that Dragon Mart, already the biggest Chinese trading hub outside China, is to be transformed into a sprawling retail, residential and leisure destination - and renamed Dragon City to reflect the growth plans.

Dragon City, along with a new community at Deira Islands and a large extension to Ibn Battuta Mall, was approved last week by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minster of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.

Warsan Village, just three kilometres from Dragon City, will also feature Warsan Souk, a vibrant retail hub with 1,000 shops and 30 restaurants, launched last November and fully leased within two days.Nakheel is also building an 18,000 sq ft neighbourhood retail centre next to Warsan Village.

Warsan Village's residential component is due for completion in 2016, and Warsan Souk in 2017.
