DOHA: Mowasalat has seen a rapid rise in the sale of its Karwa smartcards, after the cash payment system in public buses was phased out early this month, a senior company official has said.
The company has already sold about 100,000 smartcards since it was launched in November last year. The demand for the cards witnessed a sudden spike after the company announced the February 21 deadline for phasing out the cash ticketing system, the official said. The deadline was later extended to March 1.
"Now we have fully switched over to the cashless payment system using smartcards and it is working well," said Ahmed Al Ansari, Business Development Director of Mowasalat.
The cards as well as the top-ups are available at the main bus station in Al Ghanim and with 60 partner merchants.
Meanwhile, Mosagizur Rahaman, a Bangladeshi national won a Samsung LCD TV as part of the on-going raffle prizes of the Karwa smartcard promotions.
Customers also get free gifts while buying new cards while everyone is entitled to participate in the raffle draws.
