The nearly weeklong strike by employees of Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has been called off after the management agreed to most of the demands.
Following negotiations involving the management, Ministry of Manpower and the protesters, all outstanding issues have been resolved, said the protesting employees."A copy of the agreed terms, which will be effective from April 1, was made available to all protesting employees by the Ministry of Manpower," said Mubarak Salem al Kusaibi, Safety Officer, L&T.
The management has agreed to give a 30 per cent hike in salaries, 5 per cent annual increment in basic salary, overtime allowance, new kitchens at camps, expansion of camps, prayer rooms and restrooms, and Omani food is to be served at camps. A public relations department will be set up to handle the internal affairs of the company, said Saeed al Balushi, a heavy truck driver with L&T.
Two managers have been sacked, a Public Relations Officer has been transferred and an expat accountant, who was on a carpenter visa, deported.
