Move tied to growing rate of marginal workers
KUWAIT CITY, April 8: Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor will suspend the issuance of work permits indefinitely due to the growing rate of marginal workers in the country, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting sources.
Earlier, the ministry issued a decision allowing specific categories of sponsors to bring in laborers. However, many of them exploited the privilege to recruit marginal workers, compelling the ministry to suspend the issuance of work permits entirely, sources added.
It is noteworthy that many sponsors are trying to evade the decision by registering other businesses that will facilitate the process of recruiting marginal workers into the country, the daily indicated.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has no jurisdiction over local political issues and restrictions on expatriate personnel in Kuwait are purely based on political decisions or security instructions, reports Alam Al-Yawm daily quoting Assistant Undersecretary for Labor Affairs Mansour Al-Mansour.
Al-Mansour made the statement to refute news item published in some local dailies that the ministry has opened the file of Iranian expatriates in the country. He noted the ministry hasn't received any instructions from the security authority in that regard.
