TOKYO -- Japan's government will increase its assistance to the countries of the Middle East and North Africa region, including Jordan, to help achieve regional stability and boost their drive towards democracy, according to a statement issued by Japan's foreign ministry on Saturday.
Under the decision, Japan will extend 13.4 billion yen (equivalent to around $150 million) via international organisations to countries that have embarked on democratic reform. The assistance package will include emergency aid for Syrian refugees, who have converged into neighbouring countries as a result of the deteriorating situation in Syria. Also, it will include economic assistance to deal with youth unemployment, besides financial and economic aid to Palestine.
