The company achievements include 6.8% capacity growth

His Highness Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of DEWA, visited Empower's stand at the 17th edition of Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) today, to witness the company's 2014 milestones and future plans. He also visited the model of Empower's third district cooling plant in Business Bay, Dubai.

Empower has achieved a 6.8% capacity growth in 2014, it was revealed.

According to the company's Annual Statistics report, released during the exhibition, total cooling capacity for Empower reached 1,045,000 Refrigeration Tonnes (RT) in 2014, up from 978,000 RT from the previous year.

"In just over a decade, we have grown from a single temporary plant to the world's largest district cooling services provider," said Ahmad Bin Shafar, Chief Executive Officer, Empower. "No matter the economic- cycle, we have achieved a consistent rate of growth, which is a testament to the sound development strategy we employ. This advancement is also attributed to our close partnership with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the visionary leadership of the government of Dubai and the hard work of our team."

Empower's systems use up to 50% less energy for air conditioning, leading the company to avail of significant electricity savings. In 2014, the company saved 836MW in power plant capacity.

"With sustainability emerging as crucial aspect of Dubai's--and the United Arab Emirates'-- development strategy, integrating environmentally responsible technologies into infrastructure is a crucial step in achieving public goals," continued Bin Shafar. "Sustainability lies at the very heart of the technology we use, and we foresee much dynamism in this sector due to the leadership's singular vision and support in creating smart cities that are ethically, environmentally and socially responsible."

As of 2014, Empower services around 50,000 corporate and individual customers in approximately 750 buildings. The company holds 70% of Dubai's district cooling sector, operating a portfolio that includes large-scale real estate developments such as Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Shopping Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World trade Centre Residences, Dubai Design District, among others.
