Law Seeks Stricter Penalties
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 25
Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the Ministry of Health Dr Mahmoud Abdulhadi was recently quoted as saying the ministry and representatives from the Fatwa and Legislative Department will come out with a final draft law to amend the law on smoking ban in designated areas, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Al-Abdulhadi said in press release said the representatives of the two authorities will hold at least four meetings to come out with what he called a final draft law formula expecting the government to decide on the draft law before the end of this year so that it can be referred to the National Assembly.
He indicated the amended law seeks stricter penalties for people caught smoking in public places.
The penalties are expected to be imprisonment and sometimes KD 500 fine instead of the current KD 50. The law will also give authority for Municipal employees to issue warrants.
