Held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority in partnership with Dubai Design District (d3) and supported by Dubai Culture & Arts Authority.

Dubai Design Week is sponsored by Audi, Huawei and Swarovski.

If you are in search of ideas on what to do this weekend, head off to Dubai Design Week this Friday and Saturday and take part in programmes designed for families and children.

Dubai Design Week, an exhibition that strengthens Dubai’s resolve to be the region’s design hub calls for the public to participate in weekend activities including live stage performances, children’s workshops as well as various design possibilities happening at Dubai Design District (d3) and other parts of the city.

Parents and adults interested in seeing eclectic pieces from the region and international designers has the last chance on Friday, October 28th to catch Downtown Design. Over 100 brands from 28 countries are featured at the premiere design fair.

Children will particularly love Fables Alive! where Vinny Dolls will engage participants in the imaginative doll-making process. Children and their families will learn how to stuff, sew and decorate big doll heads, which can then be used as cushions or playful masks. For more imaginative activities, children can also participate in the building with Recipe for a Giant by Milimbo, Valencia’s leading design studio. Through a colourful set of large cardboard pieces, children can assemble, create and interact with their very own imaginary creatures.

Future inventors are also encouraged to participate at Global Grad Show’s Little Inventors’ Workshop where children are challenged to create their own creative visions and learn about the process of invention at the same time.

Children aged 7 and above can create their own wall hook in the shape of a comic speech bubble that tells their own personal story through Comic Speech Bubble workshop hosted by LConcept. Booklovers are also invited to Dar Al Hikma’s pop up bookstore to check out a large selection of design books and magazines covering dozens of categories for inspiration.

On Friday October 28, more than 10 of the Middle East's top YouTube creators will be mingling with fans and visitors at YouTube's Creators Meet-Up. Sister-brother duo Njoud and Moha Al Shammari, Dubai-based Lowi Sahi, and the Saudi Reporters are some of the names who will be mingling with visitors at YouTube's area at Dubai Design Week. For children and teens with flair for drawing, join Urban Sketchers as they spread across d3 to draw a variety of spaces and objects on paper.

Chocolate lovers can also head to Mirzam Factory at Al Serkal Avenue for a shared experience with displays from chocolate to lighting and furniture available to experience via viewings, video screenings and scheduled tours to coincide with chocolate tastings and live demonstrations.

This weekend, Dubai Design Week also hosts a two-day pop-up design and food market courtesy of Ripe Design Market at d3. The chosen home for the region’s growing collective of creatives, artists and designers, d3, has fast become the hub for inspiration and innovation. Created to answer the growing need from the industry, d3 provides businesses, entrepreneurs and individuals from across the design value chain with a thriving community where they can collaborate, create and inspire.

Known for its versatility d3 has become a popular events space, attracting international crowds to cultural exhibitions such as Dubai Design Week, Fashion Forward, Sole DXB and Meet d3, which have simultaneously driven footfall to d3’s distinguished repertoire of design-focused outlets, art galleries and eateries.

With this year’s launch of lifestyle boutiques, art galleries and culinary concepts in its core 11 buildings, the Design Quarter, d3 is very much alive.
