Emirates Road topped the list of the deadliest roads in Dubai with four road fatalities, including two pedestrians, in the first five months this year, according to Dubai Police Traffic Department.

Out of a total 38 road fatalities, two pedestrians died on Al Khail Road and two drivers on an intersection in Barsha. A reported 56 were killed in road accidents during the same period last year.

According to police, 14 pedestrians were run over and killed by the end of May, including one who was crossing Garhoud Bridge, while Jebel Ali Industrial, Lehbab, Umm Suqeim, Al Quoz, Marabe’e, Ettihad, Muhaisena, Bani Yas, and Dubai Financial Centre roads witnessed one pedestrian death each.

Thirteen motorists died after crashing with other cars and three when their cars overturned, while three died as a result of hitting sign boards, three after hitting pavements, two after hitting trees, two after hitting metal barriers, and one died when he hit a lamp post.

A total of 1,199 serious accidents were reported in the first five months involving 2,191 cars. A total of 1029 injuries were reported, including 38 deaths, 70 serious, 286 moderate and 635 minor to 446 motorists, 412 passengers and 171 pedestrians.
