Dubai is all set to cross the two million mark with around 100,000 people expected to join the existing population in 2011, according to a report released recently.
Growing steadily at 5 per cent, Dubai's population in 2008 stood at 1.646 million, increasing to 1.771 million in 2009 and reaching 1905 million in 2010.
Going at the same rate, the population is set to grow by 97,800 people, taking the number precisely to 2,000,003 people in 2011.
Statistics indicated that the single most influencing factor in the increase of population in the emirate is immigration, which continues to rise year after year.
Rates of population growth in Dubai have witnessed a fluctuation during the last few decades, however, it has been steady over the last three years and is expected to drop steadily in the next five years.
Between 1985 and 1995, population growth of 6 per cent was observed, which declined to 5.4 per cent in the next 10 years.
However, the rate jumped up drastically to 7.3 per cent between 2000 and 2010, owing to the economic boom experienced by Dubai in the first half of that period.
