Dubai, UAE; March 29, 2015

The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate's dedicated entity for heritage, culture and the arts, will showcase its achievements in governmental excellence at the Dubai Government's Achievement Exhibition organised by the Dubai Government Excellence Programme of the Dubai Executive Council.

The exhibition, which will put the spotlight on the most innovative initiatives by Dubai's government entities, is organised under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, from March 30 to April 1, 2015 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The dedicated pavilion of Dubai Culture will be highlighted by a spectacular image of the city's skyline photographed by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council. The image is currently being used as the livery of a Dubai Metro carriage, in partnership with the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) and as part of the Dubai Metro Museum project. The Metro carriage wrapping is also a highlight of the second Dubai Art Season, the umbrella initiative by Dubai Culture.

Dubai Culture will put the spotlight on its innovative services that are aligned with the Smart Dubai vision announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. These include the Dubai Culture App and Dubai Public Library App, as well as its various cultural and arts initiatives that contribute to defining the identity and soul of Dubai.

A highlight will be the showcase of the Al Maktoum Hospital Museum, a first-of-its-kind tribute to the UAE's first hospital, which is being preserved through the eyes and experiences of its very first patients, doctors, and nurses, among other personnel. It marks the first milestone in Dubai Culture's mandate of building museums to preserve the rich Emirati heritage.

While building on the cultural scene of the city, Dubai Culture has been at the forefront in leveraging modern technology to develop innovative and creative services.

This is reflected in the Dubai Culture App, which won the 'Best M-Government Service Award' in the Tourism sector at the recent Government Summit. An Augmented Reality (AR)-enabled mobile app, it enriches the visitor experience with a geo-location map enabled functionality for users to locate all relevant heritage, cultural and artistic destinations in the city. It will also provide details on cultural events in the city, the newly discovered artefacts and other artistic aspects of the city.

Dubai Culture has also launched a smart application dedicated for Dubai Public Library, which helps users to access all services of Dubai Public Library across the Emirate over the smartphone. From search information and accessing the electronic database for information on the books available at the libraries to undertaking member services, the 'Dubai Library' app serves as a one-stop referral point.

At the pavilion, Dubai Culture will screen videos of SIKKA Art Fair, an artist-led fair of fully commissioned works that is a flagship event of the Dubai Art Season, as well as on the functionalities of the Dubai Culture and Dubai Public Library Apps. A video of the Dubai Metro carriage wrapped with the photograph by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Rashid Al Maktoum and the Al Maktoum Hospital Museum will also be showcased.

In other path-breaking initiatives, Dubai Culture will highlight its Fada'aat initiative that displays the themes of the Dubai Metro Museum, developed in partnership with RTA, in response to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid's directive to convert Metro stations into spaces of public art. Dubai Culture had developed the themes for the museum. A comprehensive Dubai Culture video highlighting its activities and achievements will be also streamed at its pavilion.
