Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) signed an MoU with Al Jalila Foundation for medical education and research support. DEWA will provide AED 10 million to support the foundation's education and research activities. DEWA will help set up a research lab at Al Jalila Foundation Research Centre in Dubai Healthcare City. The signing took place during Green Week, which includes under its umbrella the 17th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2015),

The MoU was signed by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO DEWA, and Dr. Raja Essa Saleh Al Gurg, Chairman of the Al Jalila Foundation for Medical Education and Research Support, at the Green Week stand, attended by representatives from both parties and local and international media.

"In line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who encourages efforts by the public and private sectors to improve the healthcare sector, DEWA is proud to sponsor the Al Jalila Foundation for Medical Education and Research Support, which plays an important role in scientific research development and spreading awareness about diseases such as diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular diseases," said Al Tayer.

"This sponsorship supports the UAE Vision 2021, which aims to invest in medical infrastructure to meet the growing expectations of UAE Nationals. It is also supports the Dubai Plan 2021, which seeks to make Dubai an advanced and healthy community. The role of DEWA is not limited to providing quality electricity and water services, but embraces healthcare and social initiatives to ensure a healthier and happier society in Dubai and the UAE," added Al Tayer.

"We would like to express our sincere thanks to DEWA for its generous donation of 10 million dirhams, which reflects its commitment to improve the healthcare sector and quality of life of generations to come. This amount will be invested over five years by the Al Jalila Foundation to boost its research in cardiovascular and blood vessel diseases, which are a major cause of death in the country. This research will allow us to have a better understanding of methods of preventing it and discover effective treatments. In return, we will promote DEWA's brand name on a dedicated research laboratory for cardiovascular diseases at Al Jalila Foundation," said Dr. Raja Essa Saleh Al Gurg.
