Dubai The two-day Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials meeting begins today at Newbury.

Today’s card features eight races, three of which are sponsored by the Dubai airport retailer, including two interesting Classic trials.

The Dubai Duty Free Full Of Surprises Handicap over seven furlongs has attracted 14 entries, led by Aljamaaheer, who holds entries in both the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 5 and the Epsom Derby on June 2.

Aljameeher is trained by Roger Varian for Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance.

Three Classic hopefuls, Shaikh Hamdan’s Ektihaam and Godolphin’s Gold Rally and Swedish Sailor, will contest the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup Conditions Stakes over 1,800 metres. The former has been entered in the 2,000 Guineas and Dante, while the Godolphin duo are being aimed at the Dante and Epsom Derby.

Saturday’s Dubai Duty Free-sponsored feature, the Dubai Duty Free Stakes, a recognised trial for the 1,000 Guineas, has attracted 19 entries including Godolphin’s unbeaten filly Lyric of Light.
