Supermarket first of 70 shops and restaurants at Palm Jumeirah retail hub

Dubai, 17 August 2015

Nakheel's Golden Mile Galleria on Palm Jumeirah celebrated the opening of its first shop today:  a 12,000 square foot Spinneys supermarket offering on-the-doorstep facilities for thousands of Palm residents.

Spinneys is the first of 70 outlets to open at the Golden Mile Galleria retail complex, which will also include a medical centre, gym and dozens of restaurants, cafes and shops, many of which are currently undergoing fit out.

The supermarket officially opened for business this morning, with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by senior officials from Nakheel and Spinneys.

Nakheel CEO Sanjay Manchanda said:
"The opening of Spinneys Golden Mile is a major milestone for the Palm Jumeirah community.  We continue to bring more facilities and services to the island as part of our commitment to enhancing our communities across Dubai, and this new supermarket will be hugely welcomed by residents.  I am delighted to be one of the first customers here this morning."

Mr Johannes Holtzhausen, CEO, Spinneys Dubai LLC, added:
"We like to open stores within residential communities where we can bring our quality and service closer to customers, making it easier for them to eat well and live well. Our Golden Mile store is also one of the first in the UAE to feature environmentally-friendly, glass-encased refrigerators that maintain optimum temperatures and cut energy consumption.   With our new store opening we look forward to being an integral part of people's lives for those who live on Palm Jumeirah."

One of the first customers through the door of the newly-opened Spinneys today was Kalle Autto from Finland, who has lived on Palm Jumeirah for seven years.  He said: "I'm absolutely thrilled that Spinneys has opened.  My wife and I no longer have to leave the island to buy our groceries.  It's a superb new addition to The Palm."

Other outlets coming soon to Golden Mile Galleria include a Dr Nicholas medical clinic; Fitness First; Tim Hortons; Shakespeare & Co's; Nando's; Wagamama; Café Nero; Burger Fuel; Baskin Robbins; Marina Pharmacy; Magrabi; Beyond the Beach; Aldo; Tavola; Holland & Barret and Tips & Toes.

Golden Mile Galleria is one of a diverse range of Nakheel retail, dining and entertainment projects coming to Palm Jumeirah.  Others are Nakheel Mall, The Pointe, Palm West Beach and The Boardwalk.  A number of Nakheel residential projects on the island, including Azure Residences and Palm Views East and West, also feature retail and dining outlets.
