TUNIS (TAP) - President of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) Mustapha Ben Jaafar called, on Thursday, for "a truce" until the holding of the forthcoming elections.
Speaking at the opening session of the second round of the National Dialogue initiated by the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), he placed emphasis on the necessity of fostering a common ground for dialogue to defuse social tension and lend support to the NCA in its action designed to bring the transition period to an end under best conditions.
"Cohesion is the ideal way to steer Tunisia out of conflicts and divisions and enable it to muster its strength to edify a modern civil and democratic state", he underscored.
"Once adopted by the NCA, the agreements will become mandatory; They will cover the transitional period and ensure the respect of the election timeline set by blocs in the NCA and political formations," Ben Jaafar specified.
These agreements have to take into account the general interest so as to back the action of the legislative apparatus, he highlighted. "If not, they will challenge the people's will and prove ineffective," he added.
