Bahrain's bilateral trade with Germany was recording a steady rise with the non-oil trade between the two countries crossing the 500 million euros mark.

German Ambassador to Bahrain, Dr. Hubert Lang called yesterday for sustained efforts to bolster two-way trade between both the countries with Bahrain increasingly recognised as the gateway to the trillion dollar Gulf.

"We are hoping to stimulate not only German investments to Bahrain but also Bahraini investments to Germany," he said, ahead of the visit of a high-level German business delegation to the Kingdom.

Willi Stachele, Minister of Finance from the State of Baden- Württemberg in Southern Germany, heads the delegation.

"Bahrain and Germany enjoy strong commercial and economic relations and we intend to further build upon these." The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry will hold key talks with the delegation on potential joint ventures and trade deals. The delegation from the Black Forest area represents small and medium-size companies, specialised in drilling machinery, construction, office equipment, IT solutions, hospitality and tourism, medical equipment and other key sectors.

The BCCI called on Bahraini businessmen to attend the meeting with the German delegation and explore potential investment opportunities.

Bahrain and Germany share a number of agreements including a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on trade and industrial cooperation signed in April 2006 and an agreement to encourage and protect bilateral investments signed in February 2007.

"Small and medium-sized enterprises are seeking to make greater use of the opportunities available in Bahrain."
