Manama: Bahrain has confirmed its first H1N1 fatality, an Asian woman in her 30s.
"The identity of the victim has not been established. She is a woman from southeast Asia, in her 30s, who recently came to the emergency department of the Salmaniya Medical Complex," said Dr Mohammad Ameen Al Awadi on Sunday evening.
"She was in a critical condition and had swine flu symptoms, which prompted health personnel to move her to the intensive care unit for treatment."
Her condition was so critical that she did not respond to treatment. Meanwhile in Kuwait, the sales of sanitisers and disinfectants gone up as people are today aware of taking precautions against the spread of the virus, Kuwait News Agency said.
"Sale of everyday sanitisers and other disinfectants at pharmacies and shops have registered a noticeable increase, especially those used for the face and hands. General immunity strengthening supplements such as Vitamin C tablets are also in demand," Kuna said.
Five people, including two children, a pregnant woman and a young man, died in Kuwait in August as the country reported more than 1,330 swine flu cases.
