BMW 6 Series Convertible latest in premium segment

KUWAIT CITY, April 5: The Ali Alghanim & Sons Automotive, Tuesday, introduced to the Kuwait market the new third generation BMW 6 Series over 30 years after the world's most successful premium automotive manufacturer launched the first BMW 6 Series model. The new BMW 6 Series Convertible -- available with two engine variants: 650i and 640i -- offers stylish design, outstanding performance, luxury and sheer driving pleasure. The latest generation model is expected to set trends in the premium car segment. Addressing the media on the occasion Mohammed Alghanim, Group General Manager of Ali Alghanim & Sons Automotive said, "The new BMW 6 Series Convertible includes a host of driver assistance technologies that bring unmatched driver engagement, handling and safety features to the luxury performance segment.

He disclosed, the BMW has a strong and successful heritage in Kuwait. Ali Alghanim & Sons has been the exclusive importer for the BMW Group's premium brands since 1986. "As Group General Manager, one of my priorities," he said "is to ensure that the company provides our customers with the latest models, customer care, after sales service, and ensure that our staff is well trained to offer a premium experience." "Our efforts in 2010," he added, "allowed us to be ranked amongst the top performing markets for BMW Group sales in the Middle East. Sales in the first two months of 2011 continue on a strong level and are showing a sustained development, with a 16 percent growth over the same period last year for BMW and MINI.

"Our commitment to expanding our services to increase convenience for our customers has not been hindered by the challenging economic climate. In fact, while others were downsizing and consolidating, Ali Alghanim & Sons opened a brand new dedicated BMW Premium Selection pre-owned car showroom in Al Tilal Mall," he added.

He disclosed, "This is the latest initiative in our multimillion dollar expansion plan that includes a new body shop repair centre in Rai area, featuring a 3,000 square meter workshop on the ground floor, a body parts store, a high-tech reception area for customers to relax on the mezzanine floor, as well as ample parking spaces for customers' convenience.

Hamid Haqparwar, Area Manager, BMW Group Middle East said, the dynamic driving control allows to customize the characteristics of the new BMW 6 Series Convertible according to a person's preferences.

The settings influence such parameters as accelerator pedal response, the shift points of transmission, and power steering response, thus enhancing the trademark BMW dynamics, he stressed.

In conjunction with the optional Active Drive chassis control system, the system also enables you to select individual settings for the dampers, for example to maximize ride comfort, he added.

He went on to say, although the new BMW 6 Series retains its strong characteristic lines, it has been restyled with a refined modern design. Some new characteristics include a 'shark nose' in its front end design giving the car a sense of surging forward, while a broad air intake, strikingly contoured bonnet and muscular wheel arches hint at its powerful engine technology and impressive road holding promise.
Meanwhile the luxurious atmosphere of the interior is highlighted by the driver-oriented set up, and optionally, offers individually tailored seats for the driver, front and rear passengers, he said.

"The roof of the new BMW 6 Series Convertible takes just 19 seconds to open and closes within 24 seconds. Both operations can be activated while on the move at speeds of up to 40 km/h," he added.
The new BMW 6 Series Convertible is available in Kuwait with two engine variants: 650i and 640i, which offer more power and more fuel efficiency than their predecessors. The eight-cylinder power unit in the BMW 650i Convertible produces 407 hp and the BMW 640i Convertible generates 320 hp. Both engines come with BMW TwinPower Turbo power, direct fuel injection and VALVETRONIC technologies team up as standard with an eight-speed Sports automatic gearbox, he added.

Dynamic Drive Control which allows the driver to choose from a range of pre-programmed suspension settings comes as standard, while the Adaptive Drive (optional) which helps stabilize the vehicle around corners ensures the premium comfort, safety and driving pleasure for the driver.

Commenting on the launch, Alghanim said: "Convertible models are important for us as they reiterate the athletic appeal and sportiness of the BMW brand. The new generation 6 Series will add a new chapter to a tradition of impressive BMW open-top cars that stretches back decades - and we have no doubt that it will be a popular addition to our portfolio."

The new BMW 6 Series Convertible is now available at the Ali Alghanim & Sons Automotive showroom and will be joined by the new BMW 6 Series Coupé in the second half of 2011.
