Sharjah, July 28th, 2010 (WAM) -- A cardiology surgery team at Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah saved a Syrian patient from death who had a sudden severe ravishment of the aorta artery inner wall and went into coma. Although the patient was not entitled to free treatment, yet he was admitted immediately to the hospital and this comes in confirmation to the ministrys strategy in providing immediate treatment to emergency patients without any distinction.

On 15th July Adnan Bahaa El Din, a Syrian national while being alone at home during a conversation with his wife, suffered from sudden high blood pressure which to led to severe ravishment to the aorta artery in addition to heart stroke and partial paralysis caused by thrombosis. The patient was immediately admitted to the emergency ward in Al Qassimi hospital and received first aid treatment but due to his serious condition the patient required surgical intervention.

Dr. Santosh Mathew, consultant and head of cardiology surgery at Al Qassimi Hospital, said: "The case was one of the high risk and critical conditions where about 20% of the patients die immediately. When the patient was admitted, an open heart surgery team consisting of 7 doctors, heart device technician and two nurses specialized in these kinds of surgeries made the operation for more than 6 hours. The patient had blood clots on the heart with increased blood flow. The case was immediately diagnosed by ultrasound and CT scan".

Dr. Mathew emphasized that during the past five years, Al Qassimi hospital conducted more than 500 heart surgery operations where it is the only hospital run by the ministry with the potential human resources and technologies.
