DUBAI, 20th February, 2017 (WAM) -- The Dubai International Holy Quran Award, DIHQA, has brought the curtains down on the final tests of the Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Quran Contest for female memorisers, as the final tests of the 18th edition of the competition ran from 12th to 20th February, according to a top official.

"Up to 82 female competitors sat the final tests of the six category contest," said Ibrahim Bu Melha, Head of the DIHQA Organising Committee and Adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs.

The final tests of the same competition for male memorisers are scheduled from Wednesday, 22nd February at the DIHQA headquarters in Dubai, he added. "Up to 66 male competitors are to sit the final tests."All contestants will compete under the six categories of the competition, Bu Melha explained. "The first category is open for full Quran participants and the second is for 20-part Quran memorisation." "The third section is open to 10-part memorisers, the fourth is for 5-part Emirati contestants, the fifth for 5-part expatriate competitors below the age of 10, and the sixth is for three-part Emirati children under the age of five," he added. Quran memorisers with special needs will also be participating.

The organising committee of the award has picked a high calibre arbitration panel of competent scholars, Bu Melha said. "These include Dr. Sheikh Salim Mohammed Al Dobi as chairman, along with members Sheikh Abdullah Mohammed Saeed Baemran, Sheikh Abdullah Mohammed Al Ansari, Sheikh Abdulaziz Mohammed Abul Gheit, and Sheikh Hassan Salem Habshan.

The examination sessions will be held on a daily basis after Asr prayer at the DIHQA headquarters in Al Mamzar.
