During its participation at the CCA Pharma and Bioscience Conference and Exhibition in Budapest

Sharjah International Airport (SIA) participated in the 5th CCA Pharma and Bioscience Conference and Exhibition, which was held in Budapest during the 18th and 19th of September 2017.

Their participation was part of the airport’s efforts to exchange experiences and learn about the best practices in pharmaceutical shipping services, so as to strengthen the brand presence in the regional and international air cargo market. During the exhibition, SIA presented its pioneering model in pharmaceutical cargo handling and storage, namely the modern Pharma and Healthcare Handling facility, which is the first IATA CEIV Pharma certified cargo handling service in the Middle East and Africa. Supervised by Sharjah Aviation Services, the facility was accredited with the IATA CEIV Pharma certification in 2016, in recognition of the outstanding practices and infrastructure provided by this facility which is located at the freight centre in the airport. The practices demonstrated compliance with the highest international quality standards in terms of the requirements of procurement, handling, storage and export.

Commenting on this participation, H.E Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, said: “Sharjah International Airport made a quantum leap in terms of the innovative services provided to air cargo and became the first airport in the MENA region accredited with the IATA CEIV Pharma certification. The airport offers handling and storage services to time and temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products. We have increased our capacity to meet the changing requirements of customers and companies”.

The Pharma and Healthcare handling facility at the Freight Centre in Sharjah International Airport is to keen to keep up with the increasing demands of the healthcare sector for products that require special care in handling, shipping and temperature controlled storage units. These products require continuous temperature monitoring, during the full transportation process, in compliance with a series of strict guidelines to ensure the quality of pharmaceutical products which affect human life.

Sharjah International Airport is keen to provide the highest level of services to customers in all fields, including cargo handling services. The airport continuously develops its freight centre and upgrades its equipment and technology to keep up with the tremendous development in the regional and international cargo industry. Sharjah International Airport has joined Brussels Airport (Belgium), Miami International Airport (USA) and Changi Airport (Singapore) as a founding member of Pharma Aero. The group was launched in October 2016 and will lead the development of innovative services provided to pharma cargo.
