Saudi Arabia’s King Salman will visit Kuwait in December, two Kuwaiti newspapers reported, just days after Kuwait parliamentary elections saw a strong showing by the Islamist opposition.

“Alqabas had learned that King Salman bin Abdulaziz is planning a visit to Kuwait after the Gulf summit that is expected to take place in Bahrain on the sixth and seventh of next December,” Kuwait’s Alqabas newspaper reported on its website on Wednesday.

Another Kuwait newspaper, Al Jarida, ran a similar report citing unnamed sources.

The visit also coincides with state-owned Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC) plans to resume production from the Saudi-operated Khafji oil field, Gulf News said, quoting a report by the AFP news agency.

The two-year shutdown has badly impacted Kuwait and follows nearly two years of low oil prices.
