Dubai: Retailers have sweetened deals and cut prices on some models as they hope to see one last wild bout of spending activity on Saturday at Shopper.

So far, smartphones, PCs and TVs are the fastest-selling products, depending on the retailer.

With girls and boys in different colours handing out leaflets every 50 metres or so and thumping music blaring out from every stall, entering the hall is something of a sensory overload.

Retailers expect the next two days of sales to compensate for the shortfall over the last five days.

But it is not just retailers anticipating a successful conclusion to this years Shopper. Consumers are also enthusiastic about securing a big bargain. The promotions and bundled offers are paying off.

Deals and prices are going to change every hour or so on Saturday.

The official figures of footfall and revenues are expected to be released late next week.

Nadeem Khanzadah, head of omnichannel retail at Jumbo Group, said the last two days [Friday and Saturday] are crucial for retailers, as usual.

Until Thursday, the footfall was less than last years. A senior employee of a consumer electronic company, on condition of anonymity, said that the new venue and the dates for holding the event are hurting sales.

Most people get their salary by end of the month but the show started on 23rd. It would be ideal if they held it during the first week of the month. September is the month for most parents to spend on their children[s] schools, so where is money left to buy electronics? he said.

This time, the Shopper has been moved to Zaabeel Halls instead of the usual Shaikh Saeed Halls, which was closer to the metro station but DWTC has arranged shuttle buses to ferry passengers between the venue and metro.
