Thales has signed a contract with QDVC QSC, a leading construction company in Qatar jointly owned by Qatari Diar (51%) and VINCI Construction Grands Projets (49%), for the delivery of an integrated supervision, telecommunications, security and automatic fare collection system for the Lusail Light Rail Transit System. The new tramway will consist of 4 lines, covering 32 km, and serving 37 stations. It will be the backbone of public transportation for the new city.

Located about 23 km north of Doha, on an expanse of over 35 km², the new city of Lusail will have an estimated population of 260,000 people in a pleasant and sustainable environment. In this context, public transport will play a crucial role to enable the smooth mobility of Lusail's inhabitants, accommodating up to 450,000 travellers per day.

Thales will be providing a fully integrated state-of-the-art solution that will meet a range of complex passenger and operator needs. Thales's systems will ensure high-level services such as real-time information, flexible and up-to-date contactless ticketing systems, optimal security of passengers and complete integrated supervision solution. The contract also stipulates maintenance services and logistical support.

With this success in Lusail, Thales seeks to deepen its presence in Qatar by contributing to the country's National Vision 2030 development plan, which aims to foster its expansion into an advanced and sustainable society capable of providing a high standard of living for its people.

Thales is a key player in the Middle Eastern transportation network and has already delivered fully integrated solutions for the world's longest driverless metro and ETCS main lines, Dubai's urban transport network and Saudi Arabia's North South Railway, respectively. Furthermore, in Saudi Arabia, Thales has also delivered an integrated signalling and supervision solution for the Mecca metro.

QDVC recently signed a contract for the last phase of the LRT project development, having already carried out the design and excavation phase of this project. The Lusail Light Rail Transit (LRT) is part of Qatar Railways Company Development Program including the Doha Metro project and the Long Distance Passenger & Freight rail network. Qatar Rail is in the process of constructing the LRT system that will support and integrate the intricacies of the multi-layered program for Lusail city.
