Queries forwarded on road maintenance works

KUWAIT CITY: The parliamentary Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee on Tuesday approved several bills including the proposal to amend the Press and Publication Law (P&P Law). Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Committee Chairman MP Mohammed Al-Dalal disclosed the amendment bill stipulates that photos of the accused should be published only with the consent of the Attorney- General.
He enumerated other bills approved in the meeting as follows: benefits of assistant teachers, citizens who shoulder their own expenses for studying abroad, and adding a new article to the Prisons law stating that prisoners are obliged to participate in an integrated rehabilitation program to help them while they are serving their prison term.
He went on to say the committee rejected the proposal of MP Ahmed Nabil Al-Fadhel requiring plaintiffs in pressrelated cases to pay a guarantee of KD 500 before their complaint is taken into consideration, because it will deprive some people of the right to litigate. He added the committee postponed talks on the request of the Public Prosecution to lift the immunity oflaw Al-Fadel until they hear the latter’s opinion.
Meanwhile, MP Khalid Al- Shatti forwarded queries to Public Works Minister Abdulrahman Al-Mutawa on road maintenance works. He cited the annual report of the State Audit Bureau for 2015/2016 stating that the “inefficient implementation of road maintenance projects does not reflect optimal use of disbursed funds.” He wants to know the value of contracts for asphalting roads, companies awarded such tenders, funds allocated for this purpose, and specifications of asphalt used on roads throughout the country. He also asked the minister to provide him with copies of test and quality control certificates, budget for road maintenance works, and list of contracts with road maintenance companies.
