Sharjah: Ayurveda practice in the UAE and other Gulf countries is set to get a boost with the Indian government planning to conduct awareness programmes on the benefits of the traditional ayurvedic treatment method here.

The Indian Consulate in Dubai will work in cooperation with the Indian Ministry of AYUSH (ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, unani, siddha and homeopathy) to streamline ayurveda here, the Consul-General of India in Dubai Vipul said in Sharjah on Friday.

He was speaking after inaugurating a two-day international conference on ayurveda named MAICE 2017 organised by Emirates Ayurveda Graduates Association, an association of around 150 ayurveda physicians, entrepreneurs, paramedical staff and medical distributors, organisers said in a press release.

This is the first time an expo-cum-conference on ayurveda is organised in the Arab world and the entry was free to the public, they said, adding that the Indian mission has offered its support to make MAICE an annual event.

More than 1,000 people attended the conference and expo at the Radisson Blu Resort which saw the participation of leading ayurvedic practitioners and institutions, including hospitals, colleges, resorts and medicine manufacturing companies from India. Some 50 ayurveda clinics in the UAE are also among the participants. Facilities to connect with renowned ayurveda institutions and to make appointments for treatment at discounted rates were provided, the press release added.
