Dubai: If you’re planning on leaving Dubai this week from Dubai International Airport, brace yourself for heavy pedestrian footfall and arrive at the airport early to catch your flight, advised Emirates airline on Monday.

Emirates said that it “expects higher than usual passenger traffic” on its flights this upcoming weekend, starting on Wednesday, June 21, as travellers embark on their summer holidays and Eid breaks.

Emirates estimates more than 106,000 travellers will pass through Emirates Terminal 3 during the weekend and Eid period, according to the airline’s latest forecast figures.

Friday is expected to be the heaviest day in terms of travellers, said Emirates, with more than 37,000 Emirates passengers said to be departing through Terminal 3.

“Emirates reminds customers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before flight departure. With ongoing heavy road works and construction around the main airport highways, customers are encouraged to plan extra time to avoid potential delays. Passengers can physically check in at the airport as early as six hours before departing on their flight. They are requested to check in no later than 90 minutes prior to departure, regardless of class of travel. Customers who check in less than 60 minutes prior to their scheduled flight departure will not be accepted for travel,” said Emirates in a statement.

Emirates noted that to save time, customers can also check in online 48 hours to 90 minutes prior to their flight.

“Passengers on US-bound flights starting their journeys in Dubai are encouraged to pack their electronic devices into their check-in luggage to avoid delays,” said Emirates.

Following check in, travellers are advised to be aware that boarding begins 45 minutes before each flight and gates close 20 minutes before departure.
