The Dubai Police have launched a new radar named 'smart controller', which can detect traffic violations accurately and seamlessly, while making roads safer.

Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, said that the 'smart controller' radar has many features, including an integrated technical system that helps the traffic men to ensure road safety and tighten electronic control on the roads, while focusing on checking the dangerous violations committed by drivers.

He added that the new smart radar was introduced to keep pace with the smart transformation in various areas of police work and enhance the use of modern innovations to achieve the strategic objectives of the Dubai Police. He pointed out that a technical team of the Dubai Police has been assigned to implement the new radar system, which will boost external roads' control and bring about road security.

He stressed that the use of new radar was aimed to check recklessness of some drivers and deter them from breaching the traffic rules. This would go a long way in protecting the lives of road-users.

He added that the Dubai Police traffic department has carried out several initiatives and awareness campaigns to reduce traffic accidents and intensified traffic patrols. It is using modern techniques to monitor violators, he underlined.

Al Marri said that Dubai Police are keen to harness modern technology to bring about road safety.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director general of traffic department at Dubai Police, explained that the 'smart controller' radar is characterized by its high accuracy and clarity of its controls. It enables to detect any movement on metal barriers wirelessly. It has a high quality surveillance camera that can monitor traffic violations like exceeding the maximum speed limit and road obstruction as well as crossing from non-designated areas.

The radar has a feature that directly transmits everything to the command and control centre, in addition to ringing an alarm and sounding alert to use microphones for transmission of warning voice messages. The smart radar can be controlled via smart phone applications.

He added the 'smart controller' radar can be used at many places to warn pedestrians where they cross the highways from non-designated areas. It can be easily installed and operated. It can also contribute to secure events and vital sites by monitoring the roads, he added.
