Muscat - Swedish energy firm Tethys Oil on Monday announced that its share of oil production in Oman, before government take, from the onshore blocks, 3 and 4, increased to 387,174 barrels in August, the highest since January this year.

Tethys Oil's total monthly production corresponds to 12,489 barrels of oil per day (bopd) in August compared with 11,891 bopd in July. Total monthly production in July stood at 368,628 barrels.

Tethys Oil, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Tethys Oil Block 3 and 4 Ltd, has a 30 per cent interest in Block 3 and 4. Partners are Mitsui E&P Middle East with 20 per cent and the operator CC Energy Development S.A.L (Oman branch) holding the remaining 50 per cent.

The company's core area of operation is the sultanate, where it is one of the largest onshore oil concession holders.

Last month, Tethys Oil said its share of production, before government take, amounted to 1.09mn barrels in the second quarter of 2016, compared with 848,939 barrels in the corresponding period of 2015.

It carried out planned maintenance work on all its three fields during the first half of 2016. "Block 3 and 4 in Oman are maturing as we gain an increasing understanding of our production plays, resulting in even better predictability and enhanced ability to map out further opportunities," Magnus Nordin, MD of Tethys Oil, said in the company's second-quarter report.
