Dubai - MoveSouq.com, the leading online portal that connects residents in the UAE to home service providers including maintenance companies, conducted an online survey regarding maintenance issues faced by Dubai residents. The survey was run in partnership with Imdaad, a leading provider of Integrated Facilities and Waste Management solutions in the GCC, in order to understand the quality of Dubai's homes. The survey, conducted with 150 Dubai residents, found that 83% of the respondents faced at least one maintenance issue in their home in the first half of 2015.

According to the results, nearly 50% of Dubai households - 40% of apartment building tenants and 70% of villa residents - experienced problems with their air conditioning units - which makes it the biggest maintenance issue in Dubai. Other frequent maintenance issues are related to sewage, electrical problems, thin walls and defective water heaters, each with 20% of the survey respondents claiming to have faced these issues in the last 6 months. Moreover, bursting water pipes appear to be a grave complication, especially in villas, with 24% of villa residents claiming to have faced this issue.

Jamal Lootah, CEO, Imdaad, said: "The results of this survey gives us a better understanding of the maintenance requirements of homeowners in the UAE, which range from basic AC issues to plumbing needs. Commissioning the survey demonstrates our strategic commitment to know more about these home maintenance needs and leveraging our diverse range of FM services to help address these challenges. This survey will serve as a key reference in our move to develop and improve our services for the country's growing number of homeowners."

Furthermore, the survey results showed that on average, each Dubai resident faced two maintenance problems during the past six months, however less than 60% reached out to professional maintenance companies for help. The remaining 40% stated they either fixed the problem themselves or did not fix it at all.  Also, the survey showed that 40% of Dubai tenants have to fully cover any expenses for maintenance services in their homes, whereas almost 50% state that their landlords fully cover the costs, and 10% share the costs equally with their landlords.
