Dubai: The Cambridge ICU Rehab Symposium 2018, organized by Cambridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center, UAE’s leading rehabilitation and post-acute care provider, was held at The Intercontinental Hotel, Dubai Festival City. The symposium, which was attended by over 150 healthcare professionals from the GCC and surrounding regions, was the first of its kind platform in the UAE that covered unique and multidisciplinary approach discussions in providing early and comprehensive rehabilitation for critically ill patients.

The event featured keynote lectures and symposia, that shed light on various aspects of ICU clinical care, with emphasis on the rehabilitation of critically ill patients who are deemed medically stable but still require such ground-breaking interventions as customised, transitional ventilator weaning pathways, diaphragmatic pacing, as well as ICU physiotherapy and occupational therapy for patients hoping to liberated from long term mechanical ventilation. World-Renown, international healthcare professionals including critical care physicians, hospitalists, anaesthesiologists, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, and advanced practice providers, participated in the event.

Speaking about the Symposium, Dr Howard Podolsky, CEO, Cambridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center, said, “With the Cambridge ICU Rehab Symposium, we aimed at creating a platform for medical professionals to learn the importance of early, post-acute care. While patients can be considered medically stable after receiving life-saving, intensive care, early, comprehensive, rehabilitation, following discharge from intensive care units is crucial for complete recovery. For instance, CMRC’s state of the art Transitional Vent Unit provides weaning programs to patients who require protracted and customized vent weaning protocols. It was an honour to host delegates from across the region as well as the United States and Australia and gain insights from all subspecialties of ICU multidisciplinary clinical care and intensive rehabilitation. Being UAE’s leading rehabilitation and post-acute care provider, we have always considered creating an engaging platform for dialogue and knowledge-sharing as our top priority as we endeavour to optimise world-class care to our patients throughout the region.”

Cambridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center, in partnership with Spaulding Rehabilitation Network, a Harvard Medical School Teaching Affiliate, is the region’s leading provider of Post-Acute Rehabilitation and Post-Acute Care by admitting otherwise clinically stable patients dependent on mechanical ventilation. The Symposium comes just days after Cambridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center received the prestigious 3-year CARF Accreditation; becoming the first rehabilitation center in the UAE to be certified for both inpatient and outpatient facilities, treating children, adolescents, and adults.
