Doha: Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (Bedaya Center), a joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank and Silatech, in collaboration with “Alhanzab” Law firm hosted a webinar to highlight the concepts of “Commercial Business” and “Merchant” as defined in the local law. The webinar was live streamed via the interactive video communications platform “ZOOM”.

The webinar, which was delivered by eminent lawyer Muhammad Abdul Hamid Al-Majali from Alhanzab Law Firm, included three distinct pillars. The first angle covered the distinction between commercial work and civil work, the second outlined the legal definition of “merchant” by law while the third subject highlighted the legal definition of a “commercial store”. Participants were also able to interact with the lecturer at the end of the webinar during the question-and-answer session.

The aim of the webinar was to simplify the comprehensive concepts of “Commercial Business” and “Merchant” by explaining all the legal aspects involved in establishing projects and how to start them. In addition, the webinar also enlightened entrepreneurs who have started their projects, by guiding them step by step in a simplified scientific manner.

On this occasion, Mr. Abdulla Faleh Al Saeed - Board Member and General Manager of Bedaya Center, said, “Entrepreneurs, startups and SME owners are among the most important groups who must be well-informed regarding the concepts of “Commercial Business” and “Merchant” in accordance with the Qatari law. This knowledge is an important tool to avoid falling into any legal accountability in the future, and to take important and clear decisions that will positively impact the launch and management of their projects or the continuation of their existing ones”.

“Due to the strategic cooperation we have in place with Alhanzab Law Firm, we were able to provide the center’s affiliates, members and entrepreneurs the opportunity to get acquainted with commercial concepts in accordance with the law, especially for people who do not have a legal background in the business world, which qualifies them to take the right steps either during the planning phase in case of new projects or the implementation  phase in case of existing ones” he added.

From his side, Mr. Ali Al Henzab, Chairman of “Alhanzab” Law Firm, said, “We are honored to cooperate with Bedaya Center and it is our pleasure that Alhanzab Law Firm presented its legal expertise during this webinar on the concepts of “Commercial Business” and “Merchant” in accordance with the local law”.

“The webinar tackled three angles based on the distinction between commercial work and civil work, and the legal definition of the merchant, as well as the definition of a store. Equipping the SMEs with the right information is crucial as they make a significant impact on the development and contribution towards the economy, which fulfils our duty as a law firm to spread the legal culture” he added.

“Proper construction depends on a solid foundation and that starts with a good understanding of concepts and rules as this is the cornerstone for a promising and encouraging outcome.  Hence, we proceed with you in this development starting with a legal aspect to be a beacon for every interested individual” he concluded.
