Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: The Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulator of the healthcare sector in Abu Dhabi, is reaffirming its partnership with the innovation applied-AI company Saal, in line with its participation at the Arab Health Exhibition 2020. The two parties are collaborating with the aim to work side-by-side and implement the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to research and provide insights on competency, training gaps, upcoding and other trends in the medical sector.

H.E Mohamed Hamad Al Hameli, Undersecretary of DoH commented: “We are delighted to work alongside Saal as we believe that there is an urgent need to study and analyse many areas in the healthcare sector. This partnership is necessary to develop a clear vision of how AI can contribute to enhancing the levels of efficiency of these areas. This will reflect positively on the quality of healthcare services provided to the public.”

The two entities are currently working on an AI-based tool to map dentists to many variables, including – but not limited to – specialty, diagnosis, intervention/treatment, re-treatment etc. to discover insights on competency, training gaps, upcoding and other trends.

Vikraman Poduval, CEO of Saal said: “It is our privilege to partner with DoH and participate in the region’s largest healthcare summit, Arab Health Exhibition 2020. We are committed to developing innovative solutions to enrich and optimise healthcare services, in line with efforts to generate a positive impact across the community.”

Poduval continued: “Lately, technology has held an increasing influence on our everyday life. Likewise, it has immense potential in the healthcare domain to benefit the consumer, providers, regulators and other stakeholders. With AI and technology, we envisage an era where preventive care is in dominance and healthcare is delivered proactively, reducing medical errors and also optimising the whole system to make it much more accessible to the population.”

In addition to announcing new partnerships and initiatives, DoH’s participation at #ArabHealth2020 saw it honouring various innovators and young talents who took part in the second edition of the healthcare hackathon, and contributed innovative ideas to the medical sector by participating in the AI Lab.

This year’s event focused on managing respiratory diseases, developing innovative solutions and implementing state-of-the-art technology that works to prevent and cure respiratory diseases, which are among the most prevalent diseases in the UAE. The two-day hackathon in Krypto Labs, the Abu Dhabi-based global innovation hub for emerging ideas and startups, located in Masdar City, was attended by a number of experts from around the world taking part in the event to highlight various topics via discussion sessions and group activities ranging from healthcare to technology in relation to respiratory diseases.

The AI Lab by DoH aims to foster a new culture, mindset and new ways of working for innovators in the healthcare sector. It provides a medium to fuel innovation and coach idea-owners and innovation teams in bringing their ideas to success.

Throughout the Arab Health Exhibition, DoH is hosting a series of discussions via its AI Lab workshop, which aims to shed light on the latest technologies including big data analysis, blockchain, genomics, predictive analysis, and the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), which in turn will contribute to seeking advanced healthcare solutions. The discussions will also touch on a range of topics including digital health and personal medicine.

DoH invites attendees to visit their stand at H5.B10 for an opportunity to explore the latest innovations, advanced procedures, and discuss medical updates in the healthcare industry. For more information, please visit: https://www.doh.gov.ae/events.
