Bahrain's private power plants are ready to cope with the summer demand, said Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) chief executive Shaikh Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa.

This came as he yesterday visited Al Dur Electricity and Water Company to inspect the main power grid and the private electricity and water production stations.

The visit was part of preparations of the EWA and private power plants to meet growing demand for electricity during the summer.

Shaikh Nawaf reviewed the network readiness and production stations to cover the demand for energy and water during the summer.

Officials of Al Dur confirmed their readiness to meet the demand for electricity and water during the summer.

They briefed Shaikh Nawaf on the operation and maintenance of the plant production units and the preparations made by the company to meet all requirements.

The total capacity of the power and water production plants in the Bahrain represents 80 per cent of the generation capacity. The total capacity of these companies is 3096MW and 138 million gallons per day of desalinated water.
