MADINAH: A mild tremor was experienced in Madinah on Tuesday, according to officials.

However, no damages were reported.

Tariq Abal Khail, spokesman of the General Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Protection, said that a 2.5 magnitude earthquake occurred 14 km northwest of Madinah city and tremors were felt in the nearby regions.

“The National Commission for Earthquake and Earthquake Monitoring (ECCI) recorded the tremor at 2:59 p.m. with a magnitude of 2.5 on the Richter scale. The tremor was very weak and not dangerous,” he said noting that small tremors occur often in the Kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Meanwhile, Col. Khaled Al-Johani, spokesman of the Civil Defense Directorate in Madinah, said that the control and guidance center at the Civil Defense received at 3.00 p.m. on Tuesday reports from residents in the townships located west of Madinah that they have felt tremors.

The Saudi Geological Survey announced that its seismic monitoring stations recorded an earthquake measuring 2.5 degrees on the Richter scale.

Al-Johani said the Civil Defense has not yet received information about any damage caused by the tremor. Brig. Gen. Abdulrahman Al-Harbi, director of Civil Defense in Madinah, issued directives to the specialists of the concerned departments to closely monitor the situation and issue necessary reports.
