Sharjah: The Joint Surveying Committee for Minor Traffic Accidents in Sharjah, formed by the Sharjah Police General Command, in cooperation with Rafid Automotive Solutions, announced that 3,230 minor traffic accidents were recorded on various roads of the emirate from August 29 to September 9, during the back-to-school period.
Figures were based on reported incidents to Rafid’s call and control center as well as Rafid smart app, which also revealed that the largest number of daily accidents in 2021 thus far was 317, which was recorded on 2nd September, and higher than the 213 daily accident average for this year.
Further insights from the report showed that the period from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm witnessed the highest percentage of daily accidents recorded, and about 60 % of accidents occurred because drivers did not keep a safe distance between vehicles.
Abdelrahman Alshamsi, Accident & RSA Department Manager at Rafid Automotive Solutions, a member of the joint committee, confirmed that the increase in the number of traffic accidents with the start of the back-to-school season was expected due to the intense movement of vehicles and buses on the roads as well as some drivers unmindfully rushing to their destinations, all of which were contributed to congestions on some of the roads leading to and from schools.
Al Shamsi added: “With the highest daily traffic incident recorded during this period, we encourage all drivers to follow and abide by traffic laws to maintain the safety of all road users.”
He also highlighted, in the event of a minor traffic accident motorists should park in a safe area and use the Rafid smart application or call the Rafid call and control center on the toll-free number 80072343.
The “Rafid” smart app also provides many services, including roadside assistance for emergency situations, such as refueling, replacing tires and batteries, and transporting vehicles that stopped due to malfunctions to workshops.
In addition, Rafid Automotive Solutions also offers “AutoXpress” service, which is an integrated facility for repairing all types of vehicles, and “AutoXpress Mobile” service, which consists of a mobile workshop specialized in repair and maintenance and provides essential and urgent basic services, such as replacing or repairing tires.
