The UAE is negotiating to increase flight frequencies and more access to UAE national carriers on China route as trade and tourism grow between the two countries, said a senior official of Dubai-based Emirates airline.

Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, chairman of board of directors at Hala China, and divisional senior vice-president (SVP) commercial operations at Emirates airline, hopes that the upcoming visit of the Chinese President Xi Jinping will result in a positive development as a number of agreements are expected to be signed during the visit.

"We are positive with the visit of the Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit from Thursday. There will be a lot of agreements to be signed and hopefully one of that can be more access to the UAE airlines. "We know that in order to increase the business and visitors, you need more access. I hope we can get more frequencies," he said.

He pointed out that they have a three-year plan and are looking into attracting 3 million Chinese visitors to the UAE, mainly Dubai."Our main target is Chinese in China and those who are in the GCC and Middle East to bring them to Dubai. We have a lot of activities that are coming up in education, tourism, hospitality and cultural sectors. Plus, language is a big barrier for the Chinese who come to Dubai, therefore, a hotline has been created for them. They can call for any assistance and advice. That will help them to be comfortable when visiting Dubai and UAE," Al Mualla said.

"We have handpicked the partners. It is an exchange of business and interest not just one way business. There was no vehicle to help local and Chinese companies to come together. Hala China will open new opportunities for UAE companies to invest in China."
