Egypt's Masajid Development Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of Awqaf is planning to redevelop the Al-Hussein Mosque as part of the Old Cairo Development Project, the foundation’s CEO said. 

Niazy Sallam told Zawya Projects that redevelopment work will start next year and complete by 2025, adding that Hany Saad is the architect for the project. 

He said the project, which forms a part of the wider Fatimid Cairo project undertaken by the Egyptian government, will set a benchmark for the redevelopment of heritage mosques in the country. 

He said the Masajid Development Corporation will contribute an initial amount of 150 million Egyptian pounds ($9.5 million) for the development of the heritage mosque, and post-completion, will operate and maintain the property. 

The Armed Forces Engineering Authority would supervise the project.
