Dubai’s efforts to promote itself as a start-up hub took a Dubai Chamber delegation to Azerbaijan to talk to budding entrepreneurs.

The delegation, headed by the Cahmber’s Director of International Offices, Omar Khan, gave students as the DAzerbaijan Dipplomatic Academy in Baku an overview of Dubai Chamber’s programmes to support start-ups, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and entrepreneurs, including the Dubai Start-up Hub, the Tejar Dubai entrepreneurship development programme and the Dubai Smartpreneur Competition.

Khan also gave an overview of the key objectives of the Dubai Plan 2021 and the Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030.

“The UAE’s start-up community has grown by leaps and bounds over the last decade, as more youth look to entrepreneurship as an attractive alternative to employment. Today, Dubai has become a leading hub for start-ups and entrepreneurs who want to establish a presence in the Middle East and access markets across Asia and Africa,” Khan said.

Dubai has seen an increase in the number of funds, accelerators, competitions and development programmes that cater to entrepreneurs and SMEs in recent years, Khan added, and he encouraged Azerbaijani students and entrepreneurs to visit Dubai and explore new opportunities opening up in the market.

Dubai Chamber opened its Azerbaijan office in 2012.
