Dubai: Nakheel Chairman, Ali Rashid Lootah, today officially opened a new, AED169 million retail complex and multi-storey car park at Dragon City, bringing a more diverse range of shops, quicker access and greater convenience to the 40 million people who visit each year.
The four-level complex has around 150 shops and kiosks across 118,000 square feet of ground floor retail space, with 900 parking bays above. It was built to meet growing customer demand at Dragon Mart, where more than 1,700 Chinese tradesmen and women operate 5,000 shops, restaurants and entertainment outlets.
A special promotion to celebrate the opening is running from now until 17 February 2020. Spend AED200 at Sun Tour stores in the new complex for the chance to win a new Geely SUV, a go-kart, smart phones and smart watches.
Dragon City, home of the globally-famous Dragon Mart 1 and 2, is the world’s biggest Chinese trading hub outside mainland China. The master development also has an ibis Styles hotel, which opened in 2016, and a Premier Inn, opening this year. Dragon Towers, the community’s first residential development, is under construction.

Dragon Mart, the world’s largest trading hub for Chinese products outside mainland China, opened in December 2007, playing a pivotal role in establishing the strong trade and cultural
ties between the UAE and China. Today, Dragon Mart continues to be the focal point of all things Chinese in Dubai.
The complex currently consists of Dragon Mart 1 and Dragon Mart 2, which, combined, have more than 5,000 shops and 9,000 parking spaces and welcome some 40 million visitors a year.
Stretching 1.2 km, with 1.1 million sq ft. of retail space, Dragon Mart 1 has seven zones, offering an unmatched variety of goods and services for traders and consumers. More than 1,700 Chinese retailers have shops at Dragon Mart, showcasing a wide and diverse array of products including home appliances, furniture, electronics, household goods, building materials, garden items, toys, machinery, clothes, shoes and more.
The success of Dragon Mart 1 inspired the development of its sister mall, Dragon Mart 2, which opened in 2015 and doubled the overall size of the existing retail hub to more than 3.6 million sq ft.
Located opposite the original complex, Dragon Mart 2 comprises a shopping mall with 1.4 million sq ft of retail space, a multi-storey car park and a 251-room ibis Styles hotel, directly linked to the mall.
Dragon Mart 2 combines unrivalled shopping, dining and entertainment, with an array of shops, kiosks, leisure attractions, restaurants and cafes, including a Carrefour hypermarket and a 12-screen Novo cinema and a wide selection of eateries with indoor and outdoor seating.
