Dubai: The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) honoured its partners as it concluded the seventh edition of its ‘Bil Arabi’ initiative, which seeks to promote the Arabic language among all segments of the community and encourage the public to use it in all daily communications.
The Foundation organised a ceremony to honour the partners and sponsors of ‘Bil Arabi’ in Sheikh Rashid Tower at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Monday, January 6, 2020. Attended by MBRF’s CEO His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb and a number of partners and sponsors, the event included revealing the results of the initiative’s seventh instalment.
“We launched ‘Bil Arabi’ in 2013 to support the Arabic language, promote it among all Arab peoples, and ensure that it remains firmly engrained in the nation’s consciousness through future generations,” H.E. bin Huwaireb added. “The initiative is more than just an attempt to save the Arabic language, it is a quest to manoeuvre the sea of languages that entered our communities. It is our contribution towards preserving our heritage and language while still learning the languages that have become necessary for work and education in our society, which is home to more than 200 nationalities.”
“In the upcoming editions of ‘Bil Arabi’, the Foundation strives to consolidate its presence with all members of Arab and non-Arab families, and to find innovative ways to help individuals learn the language, in partnership with various local, regional, and global bodies,” H.E. added.
H.E. bin Huwaireb expressed his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, for his constant support to all efforts to disseminate knowledge and promote the Arabic language in the UAE, the Arab region, and the world.
The MBRF CEO concluded the ceremony by honouring the partners and sponsors of the ‘Bil Arabi’ initiative, namely, the Ministry of Defence, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Etisalat, Dubai Media Inc., Al Dafrah TV, Al Oula Radio, Al Ain News Network, UAE Forsan, Majid Al Futtaim shopping malls, Aramex, Weyyak, Dragon Oil, Quil, Maui Medical Centre, Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company, Al Manara Mall, Sahara Centre, Al Arabiya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Dubai Festival City.
This year’s events included various activities and contests, taking place across nine countries, including the UAE, over the course of an entire week from December 13 and until December 20, 2019 – which has been named Arabic Language Day by the United Nations. The agenda included setting up eight booths – equipped with smart screens – in shopping malls to organise activities and competitions and interact with audiences in Arabic, where prizes will be allocated to those who interact the most with the hashtag #Bil_Arabi.
In a first for the initiative, this year’s edition saw the launch of the ‘Bil Arabi Best Idea Contest’, which called on audiences to come up with innovative ideas to improve and promote the initiative.
