Abu Dhabi, UAE: Aldar Education’s Al Bateen Academy has been praised as a school where “high standards of achievement” are constantly met, following the latest inspection by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), which saw the academy awarded a ‘Very Good’ rating.
ADEK inspectors increased the overall ranking from ‘Good’ to ‘Very Good’ overall with two areas of inspection- Students’ Personal and Social Development and their Innovation Skills; and Protection, Care, Guidance and Support of Students - recognised as ‘Outstanding’.
Inspectors said they had boosted the school’s ranking due to “very good progress in addressing almost all the recommendations in the previous inspection report”, particularly in the quality of teaching and the school’s self-evaluation processes leading to “increased rigour and accountability”.
The ADEK report describes Al Bateen Academy as a “vibrant school, where high expectations and a culture of continuous improvement results in high standards of achievement. Teachers deliver very good lessons overall and the best of these are making students into critical, innovative thinkers. Leadership at all levels in the school is driving continuous school improvement”.
Sahar Cooper, CEO of Aldar Education, welcomed the report, noting that this is the third Aldar Academy school to have won praise from ADEK for continuous improvement in the past week, following similar inspections at Al Yasmina School and The Pearl Academy.

ADEK inspectors carried out assessments in November 2019; observing 93 classes led by the school’s multi-national teaching staff of 85 who cater to the school’s pupil population of 810.
In their report, ADEK Inspectors said the key area of strength at Al Bateen Academy was the students’ overall ability, noting that pupils are “independent, ambitious and accomplished learners”.
They also commended the “broad range and high quality of students' experiences inside and outside the classroom which develop their skills and values”, the “high-quality, personalised and responsive care, support and guidance” and a strong management team who - together with staff and students - "collectively and successfully drives improvement”.
ADEK inspectors also acknowledged that examination results within the school had gone from strength-to-strength, while the quality of teaching, course content and programmes of study have improved significantly in mathematics and in Arabic-medium subjects.
In the report, inspectors were quick to praise the “impressive levels of motivation and determination among students”; adding that pupils “think critically, innovatively and use technology skilfully” and benefit from a “curriculum which delivers an extensive range of subjects through which students develop the necessary skills and aptitudes for their careers and ambitions".
Stephen Sharples, Director of Education at Aldar Education added “This inspection result is an excellent platform on which to build further success and to achieve even higher standards for our students and parents to be proud of and celebrate”.
Richard McMahon, Acting Principal of Al Bateen Academy, said a relentless drive for school improvement resulted in inspectors recognising the upward achievement of both pupils and teachers alike.
He added: “The fact we are not at the top of the boundary is just a further challenge which I am excited to take on as the school strives to press forward with its continuous cycle of improvement. I am excited to work even closer with our leadership team, our staff, pupils and parents as we continually challenge ourselves to further our progress.
