BEIRUT: Lebanon recorded 12 new coronavirus cases Monday, amid reports from Beiruts Rafik University Hariri Hospital the main facility being used to treat coronavirus patients that it's beginning to postpone medical procedures as nationwide power outages worsen.

The new positive cases were found amid a total of 1,816 tests conducted over the last 24 hours, with 1,117 of them carried out among arriving passengers at Beiruts Rafik Hariri International Airport.

Among arriving passengers, there was only one positive case found on a flight from Nigeria.

With a total of 1,885 positive cases now in Lebanon, RHUH reported earlier Monday that they were having to switch off air conditioning units and postpone certain treatments amid Lebanons increasing electricity cuts.

However, the Head of Rafik Hariri Hospital, Firass Abiad, took to Twitter to caution against alarmism.

"Is RHUH suffering from increased power cuts as the rest of the country? Yes, we are. Have this affected our clinical operations? Minimally ... Will it affect our COVID-19 efforts? None whatsoever" he said.

"Crisis have taught me us to be resilient and do our job, I hope others will do theirs too," he added.
